ROOT CANALS TREATMENT (rct)

The two most common causes for rct are deep decay, and a crack or split that has

reached the nerve chamber. The ususal warning sign is spontaneous pain, or

inability to bite down in a particular position. If you have recurrent sensitivity

that lingers for more than a few seconds, see your dentist immediately.

If the decay or split has not compromised the supporting foundation, your

dentist may recommend rct. The alternative to rct is extraction, followed by

implant or bridgework.

The best time to perform a rct is before your have an abcess or an acute

infection. Sometimes it is necessary for your dentist to perform an

emergency procedure for pain relief and do the rct at a later date. Your

dentist may refer you to an endontist for treatment if your tooth has very

curve, calcified, or constricted canals.

It can be difficult to get a same day appointment for rct. If you are having

a toothache, it is wise to call your dentist in the morning when the office opens.
